Fifteen universities from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province gathered in the Dongseongno district for the 2026 Daegu-North Gyeongsang University Festival, held Friday and Saturday across a stretch of the street running from CGV Daegu Hanil to Dongseongno 28 Art Square and the former Jungang Police Box.

Now in its third year, the festival ran under the slogan "Our Dongseongno, Our Campus!" and featured inter-university competitions, promotional and hands-on booths for each school, and celebratory performances.

The event was designed as a space for students to step off their individual campuses, come together in Dongseongno, and share their energy with local residents — a platform for mutual growth between the city and its universities.

The opening ceremony took place Friday at 5 p.m. at Dongseongno 28 Art Square, proceeding through a progress report on the urban campus initiative, a pledge by student representatives, and an opening performance.

The ceremony highlighted the achievements of the urban campus — the country's first inter-university joint campus — and saw student representatives from each school pledge to compete fairly in the inter-university contests.

A wide range of programs gave students the chance to showcase their talents and enthusiasm firsthand.

At Dongseongno 28 Art Square, inter-university contests including a golden bell quiz, group jump rope, Tekken tournament and fashion show were held alongside "Campus on Stage" performances that let each school display its own character and appeal.

Audience-interactive street shows — including magic and juggling acts — were staged at various points along Dongseongno. Invited singer Lee Chae-yeon and the band Soran performed at a celebratory concert, while comedian Lee Seon-min hosted a talk show, adding to the festival's energy.

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho said the festival was "a place where university students from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province come together in Dongseongno to freely express the passion and spirit of their youth, and to build the festival together."
