Korea Gas Corporation is building a community-centered partnership model through what it calls a "happiness coexistence trio" — a sister-city agreement, a hometown donation campaign and targeted welfare support for vulnerable groups.
According to the energy industry, Korea Gas Corporation signed a "sister-city revitalization MOU" with Gunwi-gun in North Gyeongsang Province on Saturday.
The agreement focuses on helping Gunwi-gun develop long-term self-sufficiency and promoting the county's local resources.
Under the MOU, Korea Gas Corporation will give purchasing priority to Gunwi-gun products and operate an in-house marketplace to promote and sell local specialties. The company will also pursue community partnership activities, including support for marginalized groups.
A flagship initiative involves sourcing ingredients for the company's cafeteria from Gunwi-gun's agricultural and specialty products. Korea Gas Corporation said the arrangement not only boosts income for local farming households but also serves as a catalyst for revitalizing the regional economy.
Korea Gas Corporation also ran a "hometown donation promotion campaign" with Gunwi-gun on April 29, during which employees visited an in-house promotional booth during their lunch break and made donations to support welfare projects for vulnerable residents in the county.
"Participants were able to experience the value of the Gunwi brand firsthand — checking and receiving a variety of local specialty gifts alongside tax-deduction benefits from their donations," a Korea Gas Corporation official said. "This went beyond a one-time event and created a positive cycle of promoting the local brand."
Korea Gas Corporation is also building a tailored welfare safety net for the county's younger generation and marginalized residents. This year, the company has partnered with the Daegu Social Welfare Council and the Gunwi-gun Senior Welfare Center to run a warmth-sharing outreach program, making regular visits to about 200 elderly residents at eight senior centers across Gunwi-gun and providing customized physical health programs. For 100 elderly residents in need of care, employee volunteers hand-delivered essential care packages — including bedding sets — assembled by the company's volunteer corps.
Korea Gas Corporation also expanded its Daegu junior scholarship program to Gunwi-gun this year, with plans to award a total of 30 million won ($22,500) — 500,000 won per student — to 60 middle and high school students from low-income families in the county.
Through these initiatives, Korea Gas Corporation's community outreach efforts — aimed at nurturing young people's dreams and improving residents' quality of life — are helping to brighten the future of both Daegu and Gunwi-gun.
