Jungnang-gu approved the formation of a promotion committee for the Myeongmok Station transit-oriented private redevelopment project on Monday, covering the area around 542-7 Myeongmok-dong.
The approval follows a revision to the Act on the Improvement of Urban Areas and Residential Environments enacted in June last year, which allows a promotion committee to be formed in areas where public notice for a maintenance plan proposal has already been carried out, even before a maintenance zone is officially designated.
The project has been gaining momentum. After the promotion committee's consent forms were verified and numbered in late April, an approval application was submitted in early September. The committee has secured the consent of about 68 percent of land and building owners, surpassing the legally required majority threshold.
The Myeongmok Station transit-oriented private redevelopment project calls for building a residential complex of up to 40 above-ground floors and 2,195 units in the Myeongmok-dong 542-7 area. The plan involves rezoning the site — currently a mix of second- and third-category general residential zones — to a quasi-residential zone, creating an urban space that integrates housing and everyday amenities.
Within the complex, a park of about 6,600 square meters will be laid out near Myeongmok Station and Myeongdong Elementary School, and a visual corridor aligned with the existing street grid is planned to improve the pedestrian environment and sense of openness.
Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said the redevelopment project had moved forward another step thanks to strong resident interest and participation, and pledged that the district would provide full administrative support to ensure the project proceeds without a hitch.
