Ministry to honor 58 recipients at Friday ceremony
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will hold a ceremony at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday to mark the 34th Logistics Day, presenting awards to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the industry's development.
A total of 58 awards will be presented under the Korea Logistics Award, including one industrial order, two industrial citations, four presidential commendations, six prime ministerial commendations and 45 ministerial commendations from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The top honor, the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, will go to Kim Yong-pil, chief executive of Korea Biznet Co., in recognition of his 46 years of support for the digital transformation of logistics companies and contributions to reducing logistics costs. Kim developed South Korea's first dedicated information system for international freight forwarding and helped more than 1,500 small and midsize logistics firms undergo digital transformation.
The industrial citation will be awarded to two recipients. Shin Kyung-yong, chief executive of Dongwon Logistics Co., is recognized for 31 years in freight forwarding, including his role in building cold-chain infrastructure in the greater Seoul area and contributing to the development of South Korea's fresh-food logistics network. Seo Sang-beom, a senior research fellow at the Korea Transport Institute, is honored for leading research on numerous domestic logistics policy initiatives and regulatory reforms that have driven growth and innovation in the industry.
Also notable are ministerial commendations for 36 logistics workers — including two parcel delivery drivers and seven freight drivers who have quietly performed their duties in the field for more than a decade — as well as nine logistics companies and organizations.
The ceremony will also feature three seminars under the overarching theme "Logistics in Transition: Talking About New Opportunities," aimed at exploring strategies to respond to a changing industrial environment driven by emerging logistics technologies. Presentations will cover topics including AI agent-based logistics automation, future flexible logistics solutions through physical AI, and data strategies for overcoming supply chain disruptions and climate and geopolitical risks.
Deputy Minister Jeong Eui-kyung is expected to say in a congratulatory address that the ministry is "deeply grateful to the 1.53 million logistics professionals who have dedicated themselves on the ground to help the logistics industry grow rapidly to 225 trillion won ($170 billion) in annual revenue." He is also expected to say the government "plans to expand advanced logistics infrastructure and pursue a range of support measures and policy efforts to improve safe and sustainable working conditions, in order to drive the continued development of the logistics industry."
