Trump calls 'AI' inaccurate, pushes 'SI' for superintelligence
Criticizes Wall Street Journal for still using 'AI'
Signed executive order last month renaming term in federal agencies
President Donald Trump said he will officially ban the term "AI" across all sectors, arguing it should be replaced with "SI," short for superintelligence.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Tuesday (local time) that the United States would "officially ban the term AI (Artificial Intelligence) from all relevant official documents and all sectors without delay."
Trump said the term "AI" is inaccurate and fails to reflect the true level of technological advancement.
He singled out the Wall Street Journal by name, asking, "When will the Wall Street Journal start calling AI by its correct name, SI (Super Intelligence), instead of the very bad and inaccurate name AI?" — taking issue with the outlet's continued use of the term.
Trump said SI is "the name that virtually everyone is using or will soon be using."
This is not the first time Trump has pushed for the switch from "AI" to "SI."
On Sept. 29, he signed an executive order directing federal departments and agencies to use "SI" instead of "AI" in official documents.
Trump has long argued that the word "Artificial" in "Artificial Intelligence" fails to capture how far the technology has advanced, and that "SI" — meaning superintelligence — is a more fitting label given the field's rapid progress.
With this latest statement, Trump escalated his push for the terminology change, extending his call beyond federal government documents to all sectors.
However, Trump did not explain in the post how a ban on the term across all sectors would be enforced.
