The Pohang City Council in North Gyeongsang Province held a confirmation hearing Tuesday for Do Seong-hyeon, the candidate for president of the Pohang City Facilities Management Corporation.

Members of the Special Committee on Confirmation Hearings questioned the candidate on his public service career, key professional achievements and reasons for seeking the position, while also broadly examining the corporation's major pending issues and future operational direction.

Particular attention was paid to facility safety management, improvements to public services, personnel and labor affairs, organizational culture, and efforts to enhance management efficiency while preserving the corporation's public mission.

Committee members also questioned the candidate on organizational efficiency in light of the corporation's expanding project scope, management capabilities, facility safety and disaster response, and measures to improve public satisfaction and resolve complaints.

Alongside this, the committee reviewed plans to improve employee treatment and working conditions, ensure fair personnel management and foster a healthy organizational culture. Members also assessed the candidate's views on responsible governance and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of his fitness for the role, examining his public service experience, management vision and overall integrity.

The special committee plans to compile a confirmation hearing progress report — incorporating the issues raised during the hearing and the candidate's responses, and setting out its assessment of his suitability and capacity to perform the duties — on Wednesday, and present it to a plenary session on Friday.

An Byeong-guk, chair of the special committee, said the panel "thoroughly examined the candidate's expertise, integrity, job performance capabilities and ability to address key issues from the perspective of Pohang citizens." He added that the committee would "continue to monitor whether the improvement tasks raised during the hearing are actually reflected in the corporation's future management."
