Gwangjin-gu, in partnership with its Single-Person Household Support Center, has successfully wrapped up "Hon-riding," a cycling festival designed to ease social isolation among single-person households and encourage healthy leisure activities.

Held Saturday under the theme "Light on your own, stronger together," the event gave single-person residents a chance to exercise outdoors, connect with one another and build ties with neighbors through cycling and a range of hands-on programs.

Participants set off from Ttukseom Hangang Park at 11 a.m. and rode along the riverside cycling path to Jamwon Hangang Park, finishing by 1 p.m. and soaking in the autumn scenery along the Han River.

At the festival grounds, organizers ran a series of cycling-themed programs — bike maintenance sessions, rides on refurbished bicycles and introductions to popular cycling travel routes.

Alongside this, attendees could try eco-friendly energy activities, including crafting personalized souvenirs and making cotton candy powered by a bicycle generator.

Single-person households living or based in Gwangjin-gu, along with local residents, spent the day cycling, looking after their health and mingling naturally with neighbors. The event concluded safely to an enthusiastic response from participants.

Kim Tae-jun, director of the Gwangjin-gu Single-Person Household Support Center, said he hoped the festival had given single-person residents "a chance to breathe the fresh air together outdoors and feel the warmth of neighborly connection." He added that the center would continue rolling out programs that make a practical difference in the daily lives of single-person households.

Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said the event had been "a meaningful occasion to stay healthy through cycling, connect naturally with neighbors and broaden relationships," and pledged to keep supporting a variety of leisure activities so that single-person households can communicate and enjoy a healthy everyday life within the local community.
