A man who lost consciousness and collapsed outside a police substation was saved through the combined efforts of officers and a passerby.
According to police Monday, a citizen entered a substation in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, on Sept. 17 and reported that someone had collapsed just outside.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the man lying unconscious and not breathing on the sidewalk, and immediately began performing CPR.
An officer then asked the citizen who had reported the incident to retrieve an automated external defibrillator (AED) kept inside the substation, while another officer inside called 119.
The man regained consciousness and began breathing shortly afterward. Supported by officers, he was brought inside the substation, where emergency responders confirmed he had no serious health complications.
He was found to have collapsed from the heat after failing to take his regular medication.
Police said they safely handed the man over to his guardian and later followed up with a visit to his residence to check on his condition.
