Speculation has emerged that rapper Nicki Minaj, a vocal public supporter of President Donald Trump, could become the next White House press secretary.

According to entertainment outlet TMZ and CNN, White House communications director Steven Cheung posted a video of Minaj on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday (local time), writing: "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we found our new White House press secretary."

The video was filmed aboard Air Force One on Monday (local time), when Minaj joined Trump on a campaign support trip to Michigan. In the footage, Minaj sits across from Cheung inside the aircraft and delivers what amounts to a mock briefing, praising the president's record.

After the post went up, the White House's official account added an eyes emoji in response. Alex Bruesewitz, a digital campaign strategy adviser to Trump, also replied: "Barbz (Minaj's fandom), what do you think of this idea?"

The White House press secretary position is currently vacant after Katie Zacharia was dismissed after just four days in the role.

On the online betting site Polymarket, odds that Minaj would become the next White House press secretary briefly climbed to 8 percent, placing her third behind Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly at 18 percent and CNN analyst Scott Jennings at 9 percent.

Another betting platform, Kalshi, put the probability of Minaj being named press secretary at 4 percent.

Minaj appeared alongside Trump at a Republican rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Monday (local time), where she said: "President Trump, it is always an honor to stand beside you. I will support you forever, and if you run for president again, I will support you again."
