Hosandae University announced Tuesday that it had partnered with the Seonsan Public Health Center in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, to hold a health outing volunteer program for people with disabilities at Samyeongdaesa Park in Gimcheon on Oct. 8.
The event brought together students from the university's nursing, physical therapy and radiology departments to apply their academic knowledge in a community service setting, while supporting the health, leisure and social participation of people with disabilities.
The activity aimed to promote community health through cooperation between the university and a local public institution, and to strengthen students' sense of civic responsibility and their ability to respond in real-world healthcare settings.
Students received an orientation on the day before assisting participants with their outing activities.
Their roles included helping participants move around the park and use electric tour vehicles, supporting recreational and health-culture programs, communicating with participants and managing safety throughout the event.
After the program, students gathered to share their reflections. They discussed what they had observed and experienced, and exchanged views on the attitudes and discipline-specific roles required when supporting people with disabilities.
"We will continue to actively support students in connecting their academic knowledge to real-world practice and building the capacity to contribute to their communities," said Jung Seon-young, academic affairs director at Hosandae University.
