Exhibition opens Saturday at Jamsil Avenuel sixth floor
Lotte Department Store announced Tuesday it will exclusively present a 90th anniversary exhibition for Yoshida & Co. at the art hall on the sixth floor of its Jamsil Avenuel location.
Yoshida & Co. operates the global bag brand Porter. The show marks the first art collaboration exhibition Porter has held in South Korea since entering the market in 2016, and will run from Saturday through Nov. 15.
The exhibition is being held only in Seoul and Tokyo. It explores the Yoshida & Co. philosophy of viewing bags not merely as fashion items but as tools for everyday life, examining that aesthetic from multiple angles. Organized around the theme "Everyday Is a New Beginning," the show is divided into three sections connecting the brand's past, present and future.
A range of limited-edition goods available exclusively at the Jamsil store will also be on offer, including the Tanker Officer Kit — a compact carry-all for cards and small personal items that can be worn around the neck — and a Magazine Shoulder Bag commemorating a Porter special issue published by Bisla, a first-generation Korean web magazine.
On Nov. 7 at 3 p.m., emerging Korean artist Lee Ju-won will hold a live drawing session on site, sketching portraits of visitors wearing Porter products onto exhibition postcards on a first-come, first-served basis. A guided docent program will follow at 4 p.m. the same day.
"Lotte Department Store is a space where customers who enjoy shopping alongside culture and the arts come together," said Kim Kyung-yun, head of Lotte Department Store's art content team. "We will continue to offer differentiated art content experiences built on diverse partnerships."
