Two-day event at Gangdong Children's Hall and Gloria Community Center on Thursday and Friday themed 'Childcare that embraces children, Gangdong that opens tomorrow'
Gangdong-gu in Seoul will hold its 2026 Childcare Week commemoration over two days — Thursday and Friday — at Gangdong Children's Hall and Gloria Community Center, to recognize the dedication of childcare staff and foster communication and solidarity within the sector.
Held under the theme "Childcare that embraces children, Gangdong that opens tomorrow," the event features a range of programs in which childcare staff can take an active part, including a healing talk show, a ceremony marking Gangdong-gu Childcare Workers' Day and celebratory performances.
On Thursday, Gangdong Children's Hall will host the healing talk show "Let's Laugh Together, Let's Shine Together," designed to move away from one-way lectures and instead give childcare staff a chance to participate and connect with one another.
Comedian Jo Seung-hee will host the event in keeping with its theme, leading empathy interviews and an audience survey segment so that childcare workers can share their stories and build bonds with colleagues.
On Friday, Gloria Community Center will hold the Gangdong-gu Childcare Workers' Day ceremony, a commendation of outstanding contributors and celebratory performances. The program opens with a tap dance performance and a video capturing scenes from childcare settings, followed by the presentation of commendations to 90 individuals recognized for their contributions to childcare development. Interactive recreational activities, a trot music set by singer Hwang Gi-dong and a ballad stage by Ulala Session will round out the day, giving childcare staff a chance to recharge through laughter and music.
The Childcare Workers' Day event — previously held outdoors — will move indoors this year, reflecting feedback from a satisfaction survey last year in which staff expressed a preference for an indoor venue. The district plans to incorporate on-site feedback into its event operations to provide attendees with a comfortable and safe viewing environment.
Photo zones will be set up at Gangdong Children's Hall, and an instant photo booth will be available at Gloria Community Center, giving attendees a chance to create lasting memories with their colleagues.
"I hope this childcare week gives childcare staff a chance to share their hard work, laugh together and recharge," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "We will continue to listen carefully to voices from the field, create an environment where childcare workers can take pride in their work, and strive to make Gangdong a city where raising children is a joy."
