Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended the 2026 Mapo-gu Local Security Council meeting, held Monday afternoon in the eighth-floor conference room of the district office, where he discussed public safety issues with relevant agencies and called for closer inter-agency cooperation to protect residents.
The meeting brought together Mapo Police Station Chief Gwak Byeong-il, Mapo Fire Department Chief Kwon Tae-mi, Mapo District Council Speaker Choi Eun-ha and representatives from civic organizations to exchange views and explore ways to strengthen coordination among institutions.
Attendees reviewed measures to address security gaps caused by a reduction in police staffing at the CCTV monitoring center. They also discussed facility and landscaping improvements along the Gyeongui Line Book Street area to deter juvenile delinquency, along with on-site counseling and guidance activities and support networks for at-risk youth.
With Halloween approaching, the meeting focused on preventing crowd crush incidents in the Hongdae area, which draws large numbers of visitors. Participants reviewed preparations across several areas — including restrictions on busking zones, management of street vendors and maintenance of safety fences — and clarified the role of each agency.
"Public safety is the foundation that protects residents' peaceful daily lives and community trust, which is why the police, fire department and Mapo-gu must work in close cooperation," Yoo said. "Particularly with Halloween week just ahead, I ask that we join forces on preventing crowd crush accidents and ensuring a swift response on the ground."
