Jingwansa temple in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, held the Gukhaeng Suryukjae — a Buddhist rite with 628 years of tradition — on Saturday.

The Gukhaeng Suryukjae is a Buddhist ceremony that comforts the souls of all those who have died on water or land, offering them the teachings and provisions of the Buddha in prayer for their passage to paradise. Jingwansa's suryukjae was designated a national intangible cultural heritage in 2013. This year's rite began on Sept. 6 and concluded its 49-day schedule over Saturday and Sunday with the seventh and final ceremony, the culmination of the suryukjae.
