The HS Hwaseong Volunteer Corps visited socially isolated households in Seonnam-myeon, Seongju-gun, North Gyeongsang Province on Saturday to carry out a residential improvement project.
The activity was the second this year under a joint initiative stemming from an agreement signed by HS Hwaseong, North Gyeongsang Province and the Gyeongbuk Happiness Foundation to prevent solitary deaths and social isolation, following an earlier round in May.
About 20 participants — including members of the volunteer corps, staff from the Gyeongbuk Happiness Foundation's North Gyeongsang Social Isolation Prevention Support Center and officials from Seongju-gun — visited the homes of residents identified as at risk. They replaced worn wallpaper and damaged flooring, cleared out waste and cleaned hard-to-reach areas to thoroughly improve the living conditions.
Kim Sang-heon, head of the HS Hwaseong Volunteer Corps, said the group would continue working with local community organizations to look after neighbors at risk of isolation and carry out social contribution activities aimed at preventing social isolation.
