LG Electronics on Monday launched the LG Dios AI Objet Collection Stem ice-and-water refrigerator, a direct-piped model featuring a redesigned drawer-style bottom freezer.

The new product replaces the conventional side-opening bottom freezer with a two-tier pull-out drawer system — an upper compartment and a lower one — reducing the need to bend at the waist or kneel to reach stored items.

The upper compartment, called the convertible drawer, supports multiple storage modes beyond standard freezing and refrigeration, letting users select the setting best suited to each type of ingredient.

Through the LG ThinQ app, users can choose from 14 storage modes covering baby food, meal kits, dairy, wine, kimchi, meat, fish and more. The lower compartment offers a freezing function and an automatic ice maker.

LG has integrated AI into the refrigerator's core component technology to strengthen both freshness management and energy efficiency.

The AI Fresh Care feature learns the times of day the refrigerator is used and how often the door is opened, then activates an intensive cooling mode ahead of meal preparation to keep ingredients fresh. During periods of low use, AI Saving Mode optimizes compressor operation to improve energy efficiency.

The AI voice recognition function recommends and activates settings based on the ingredient, intended storage duration and purpose. When a customer says, "I'm going to store beef," the refrigerator responds: "If you plan to eat the beef between Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, try the left or right custom fresh compartment or the convertible drawer set to meat mode. For longer storage, the meat soft-freezing mode is recommended. Which compartment would you like me to set?" Once the customer specifies a location and method, the refrigerator automatically applies the corresponding mode.

The number of custom fresh compartments — which maintain tailored temperatures for different ingredients — has been increased from one to two, and an auto-closing function has been added to the refrigerator door, which shuts automatically once it reaches a certain angle.

On the design side, the gap between the refrigerator and the surrounding walls has been minimized to achieve a polished built-in look. Installation requires just 4 millimeters of clearance on each side and a minimum of 9 millimeters at the top — a 40 percent reduction from the previous model.

Subscribers receive performance checks, filter replacements, and cleaning of the water line, dispenser outlet, door rubber gaskets and exterior every three months. The machine room at the back of the refrigerator is serviced every 36 months, with dust and debris cleared from the cooling fins and cooling fan.

"We will use the new convertible drawer model to offer differentiated customer experiences in the domestic refrigerator market," said Kim Jae-il, head of LG Electronics' Kitchen Solution Business Division. "We will continue to strengthen the core performance of our products and introduce home appliances optimized for the diverse lifestyles of our customers."
