Fans who had traveled to Daegu were left bewildered Sunday as Typhoon Champi forced the cancellation of the professional baseball postseason opener, leaving supporters who had come from afar with few good options.
Game 1 of the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO postseason playoff series — a best-of-five between the KIA Tigers and Samsung Lions scheduled for 2 p.m. at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu — was called off due to rain brought by Typhoon Champi.
Rain had been falling at Samsung Lions Park since the morning under the typhoon's influence.
The Korea Meteorological Administration had forecast 20 to 60 millimeters of rainfall for Daegu and southern North Gyeongsang Province.
It was the first postseason game this season to be rained out, and the 26th in KBO history.
With Sunday's game canceled, the entire playoff schedule was pushed back by one day.
Game 1 between KIA and Samsung will now be played Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the same venue.
