A restaurant is drawing criticism after a customer reported that it served smaller portions to women while charging the same price as men.
On Tuesday, a man identified only as A posted his account on the SNS platform Threads, describing an unsettling experience he had while dining out with a female colleague.
According to A, the two ordered noodles at the restaurant. When the server took their order, he called out to the kitchen: "One noodle for a man! One noodle for a woman!"
The pair initially thought nothing of it, but were taken aback when the two bowls arrived with noticeably different amounts of food.
Despite ordering the same menu item, the bowl placed in front of his female colleague contained significantly fewer noodles.
When she asked the server why the portions differed despite the identical price, the server replied, "Women eat less than men, don't they? We'll give you more if it's not enough."
The female colleague did not ask for additional food, but told A she was offended and never wanted to return to the restaurant, he said.
The story drew swift backlash online, with users criticizing the restaurant for adjusting portion sizes based solely on a customer's gender without asking their preference.
"If you charge the same price, you should give the same amount," one user wrote. Others said the restaurant should serve standard portions from the outset and offer more if needed, adding, "If you're going to give less, you should charge less."
