Suncheon Mayor Son Hun-mo visits DSR Wire production site at Seomyeon General Industrial Complex
Suncheon Mayor Son Hun-mo, who aims to build an industrial foundation on the city's ecological and environmental assets, visited a small and medium-sized enterprise to hear directly from the business community.
Son visited DSR Wire, a tenant of the Seomyeon General Industrial Complex, on Wednesday alongside city officials from the industry and economy divisions to listen to management challenges and discuss ways to strengthen the industrial complex.
DSR Wire manufactures and sells wire and wire rope — products that serve as the sinews of industry. Company executives, including General Manager Lee Jeong-uk, received the delegation at the site.
Company representatives raised concerns about rising energy costs, including electricity and gas bills, as well as difficulties stemming from shifts in the global trade environment. They also called for the swift passage of an amendment to the Steel Industry Act, known as the K-Steel Act, along with improvements to site conditions and support for attracting quality companies to boost the complex's competitiveness.
With operations in Suncheon's Seomyeon complex and in Gwangyang, the company produces wire rope — strands of steel wire twisted together like cord — and exports to 120 countries, making it one of Suncheon's most prominent small but globally competitive enterprises.
Earlier, in August, Suncheon held an on-site forum called "Connect 2026," bringing together defense companies, universities and research institutions to discuss inter-company cooperation, securing industrial land, and strategies for technology development and workforce training.
"We plan to form a standing consultative body by year's end and hold a 'Business Leaders' Day' event, continuing to strengthen communication with the business community," Son said.
DSR Wire, one of the country's leading steel and wire rod specialists, donated 200 million won ($151,000) to a neighbor-helping fund last December, bringing its total contributions to Suncheon to 1.7 billion won.
The company posted sales of 226.6 billion won last year, with operating profit of around 28 billion won.
