The district's 'Connect Eunpyeong, Run for Health' project earned top honors for its lifecycle-based physical activity support
Seoul's Eunpyeong-gu won the grand prize — the Minister of Health and Welfare Award — at the 2026 Korea Healthy Cities Awards, organized by the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership, on Thursday.
The win extends the district's consecutive streak to five years at the Korea Healthy Cities Awards. The recognition came after Eunpyeong-gu had already received the WHO Healthy Cities Award and the Alliance for Healthy Cities' Healthy Cities Development Award earlier this year, making the domestic top prize a third major honor in a single year.
The district developed a program called "Connect Eunpyeong, Run for Health" to address population aging and disparities in physical activity among residents. The initiative established a tailored physical activity support system across all life stages and created an environment where residents can incorporate healthy habits into their daily routines.
Judges particularly praised the district's adoption of the WHO's Health in All Policies principle, under which relevant departments and community organizations collaborated to expand physical activity support from an individual health concern into a community-wide effort, building a cooperative framework to support residents' healthy lifestyles.
Eunpyeong-gu Public Health Center plans to strengthen cooperation with relevant departments and community partners, and to continuously expand its lifecycle-based health promotion projects so that residents can stay physically active in their everyday lives.
"Winning healthy city awards both at home and abroad in succession is the result of residents and the community working together to build a healthier city," District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said. "We will continue to develop our healthy city policies in partnership with the community so that every resident can practice healthy living in their daily lives."
