The Gangnam-gu Council attended the "Bareugesalgi ESG Bicycle Riding and Walking Festival" held Thursday morning at Yeongdong 3rd Bridge along Yangjae Stream, cheering on residents' efforts to save energy and embrace eco-friendly habits in daily life.
The Gangnam-gu chapter of the Bareugesalgi (Right-Living) Movement organized the event as part of its ongoing ESG campaign for the local community, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and promoting health by choosing bicycles and walking over cars.
The Gangnam-gu chapter has consistently carried out eco-friendly outreach through its "ESG Bicycle Repair Tour Service," traveling across Gangnam to offer free bicycle repairs to residents.
Council Speaker Lee Jae-jin, Administrative Safety Committee Chair Lee In-seon, and lawmakers Bok Jin-gyeong, Lee Dong-ho, Park Dae-yong, Yeom Hui-ok and No Mi-jin all took part in the event. The lawmakers watched performances, toured the various participation booths and encouraged chapter members for their work in spreading ESG awareness, while also engaging with local residents.
The festival drew about 150 participants, including chapter members, Gangnam-gu residents, Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi and city council members. It opened with a saxophone performance by the Bareugesalgi Band. Participants then chose between a 3-kilometer round-trip walk from Yeongdong 3rd Bridge to Yeongdong 5th Bridge or an 8-kilometer round-trip bicycle ride from Yeongdong 3rd Bridge to Tancheon 2nd Bridge, reflecting on the values of health and environmental stewardship along Yangjae Stream.
The festival grounds also featured bicycle repair demonstrations, giveaways of eco-friendly soap and shampoo, a resident-run recycling flea market and hands-on booths showcasing ESG-related products. After completing their walks or rides, participants explored a range of environmental activities they could incorporate into everyday life.
In his congratulatory remarks, Council Speaker Lee expressed gratitude to the Gangnam-gu chapter members for their service to the community through everyday ESG activities. "I hope today's event, which you organized through your collective efforts, will serve as an opportunity to spread ESG practices in daily life," he said.
The Gangnam-gu Council also pledged to actively support the Bareugesalgi Movement's Gangnam-gu chapter and join in its efforts for the community and the environment.
