US stocks tumbled Thursday (local time), with technology shares leading the decline as skepticism over AI investment resurfaced on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 11.89 points, or 0.02 percent, to close at 52,867.98. The S&P 500, however, fell 93.74 points, or 1.21 percent, to 7,663.43, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite tumbled 694.00 points, or 2.60 percent, to 26,008.86.

The Nasdaq posted its steepest single-day loss since June. Investor sentiment soured sharply as earnings reports from major technology companies, including Meta, deepened doubts about whether the massive sums being poured into AI can translate into actual profits.
