District disaster safety committee meeting and on-site command post inspection test real-time response systems
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae led a joint disaster response drill Tuesday, testing whether on-site response and command systems function in a coordinated manner during an emergency.
Kim chaired a disaster safety committee meeting at the district office's emergency operations center before moving to the GTX-B construction site at Yongsan Station to take command of the integrated support headquarters.
The drill was based on a scenario in which heavy rain and a typhoon triggered a crowd crush at the GTX-B Section 1 construction site near Yongsan Station, leaving about 30 people injured. Participants practiced supporting the rescue of a fallen rescue worker, confirming the identities of casualties, managing the aftermath of the accident and evacuating residents near the site.
About 200 personnel from Yongsan-gu, Korea National Railway, the Yongsan Fire Station and other agencies took part, moving in close coordination throughout the exercise.
A key feature of the drill was its real-time link between the GTX-B construction site and the district office's emergency operations center, where a tabletop exercise was held simultaneously. Live video from the scene was shared with the disaster safety committee to verify that on-site response, situational assessment, and command and support functions were working in an integrated manner.
"Disasters strike without warning, so swift situational judgment, on-site response and close cooperation among relevant agencies are paramount," Kim said. "Yongsan-gu will continue to strengthen its disaster response capabilities through smart technology, guided by our district goal of field-centered smart safety, and do our utmost to protect the lives and safety of residents as we build a safe and vibrant Yongsan."
