A review of broadcaster Jung Hyung-don's newly opened tonkatsu restaurant has been making the rounds online.
A short video titled "(First Look) Honest Review of Jung Hyung-don's Tonkatsu Restaurant" was posted Tuesday to the YouTube channel Jaeseuling Guide.
The video shows a YouTuber visiting Jung's tonkatsu restaurant in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, and sampling the food firsthand.
Expecting a crowd, the YouTuber arrived an hour and a half before opening time — only to find no one waiting and walk in as the first customer.
"I ordered as many items as I could," the YouTuber said. "Rice and drinks are self-serve, so you have to get them yourself."
The overall verdict was positive. "The seasoning is not heavy overall. The breading is crispy and the meat has a clean flavor," the YouTuber said. "It's not extraordinary, but it tastes exactly like the classic tonkatsu we all know — and that's what makes it good."
There was one criticism: the cheese ran out onto the plate during cutting. "It's a shame, but I think it's completely understandable given that it was the restaurant's first day of business," the YouTuber said.
Meanwhile, Jung recently ended five years of living apart from his family and is starting fresh. The restaurant's opening drew attention when comedians Park Myung-su and Jung Jun-ha, among his closest friends in the entertainment industry, attended the event.
