Mayor Min Hyung-bae and other officials from the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city visited Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus and the Godeok International Planning District in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday to review large-scale semiconductor production facilities and infrastructure development.

The visit was arranged to help define the power and water supply chains, transportation networks, and residential conditions needed for the Honam region semiconductor cluster, which is targeting its first mass production run in 2030.

Guided by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation's Pyeongtaek project office, the delegation toured the Godeok International Planning District and the area surrounding the Pyeongtaek campus to examine links between the industrial complex and its supporting city.

The group then received a briefing from Samsung Electronics on construction progress at P5 on the Pyeongtaek campus and toured a semiconductor production line cleanroom to observe manufacturing processes and equipment operations firsthand.

Drawing on what the delegation observed, the integrated city plans to finalize its strategy for building key infrastructure for the semiconductor cluster, including power and water supply systems, transportation networks, and residential facilities.

"The Pyeongtaek campus is a prime model combining advanced manufacturing infrastructure with a new town support function," Mayor Min said. "We will be ready so that, before long, at the ground-breaking of the Gwangju mega-fab, people will be able to say they made the right choice coming to South Jeolla Province and Gwangju."
