Park recognized for nurturing local talent, supporting small businesses and children's education
Honam University President Park Sang-chul received the academic and education category of the Gwangsan-gu Citizen Award on Tuesday at a ceremony marking the 35th Gwangsan-gu Citizen's Day, held at Gwangju Women's University's Universiade Gymnasium.
The Gwangsan-gu Citizen Award, presented by Gwangju's Gwangsan-gu district, honors individuals who have contributed to community development across a range of fields. This year, recipients were selected in nine categories: sharing and volunteer service, filial piety and welfare, autonomous community, culture, arts and sports, academics and education, local economy, industrial technology, human rights promotion, and safety and environment.
Park was recognized for leveraging the university's education and research capabilities to actively collaborate in areas including local talent development, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and education and welfare, contributing to regional economic revitalization and shared growth.
Honam University has led efforts to cultivate talent rooted in the local community, with 345 graduates finding employment at companies in Gwangsan-gu over the past three years. The university has also carried out a range of initiatives to attract and support international students, helping boost spending in local commercial districts and stimulate the regional economy.
"This award is meaningful because it recognizes the efforts Honam University has made to grow together with the local community," Park said. "We will continue to do our best to share the university's education and research capabilities with the community and contribute to developing local talent and advancing the region."
