The two companies will jointly develop data-driven mobility services and business models, linking vehicle data with risk management solutions, and will collaborate on autonomous driving and electric vehicle infrastructure.
Samsung Fire announced Wednesday that it will partner with SK Rent-a-Car to jointly address shifts in the mobility industry, including the rise of autonomous driving, the transition to electric vehicles and the expansion of data-driven services.
The two companies signed a mobility business cooperation MOU at Samsung Fire's headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday. The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-dong, Samsung Fire's executive vice president and head of auto insurance, and SK Rent-a-Car co-CEOs Shin Jeong-ho and Park Sang-wook, along with other senior officials from both sides.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to jointly address changes in the future mobility market — including autonomous driving and the shift to electric vehicles — and to identify new business models and pursue various cooperative initiatives drawing on each company's expertise.
Key areas of collaboration include joint development and advancement of vehicle data-based fleet operation services; joint identification of business models in future mobility areas such as autonomous driving and the electric vehicle transition; joint research on risk management frameworks and insurance and services related to future mobility; and cooperation on autonomous vehicle operations and related infrastructure.
A Samsung Fire official said the agreement is significant in that it combines the expertise of both companies to explore new business opportunities in the future mobility sector. "We will work with SK Rent-a-Car to identify business models suited to the evolving mobility environment and to provide customers with safer and more convenient services," the official said.
Meanwhile, Samsung Fire signed a mobility partnership agreement with KG Mobility in April, centered on advancing usage-based insurance linked to vehicle driving data.
