Comedian Heo Gyeong-hwan and author-YouTuber Kim Babi will meet the public in Busan to discuss the value of the ocean and practical ways to protect the marine environment in everyday life. Interactive activities and a quiz show open to children and adults alike are also planned.

The Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) announced Wednesday that it will hold the second KOBC Ocean Academy — a public marine culture event — on Oct. 31 at the National Maritime Museum in Yeongdo-gu, Busan.

The Ocean Academy is KOBC's public outreach program, delivering lectures and hands-on experiences on topics related to the sea and the maritime industry. At the inaugural event in January, history lecturers Choi Tae-seong and Yi Do introduced the importance of the Arctic and Arctic shipping routes.

This year's event, themed "Ocean Citizens," will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the first-floor lobby of the National Maritime Museum.

Visitors can pick up an "Ocean Citizen Passport" on site and take part in a stamp tour, completing five stages — entry, understanding, experience, practice and certification — to collect stamps along the way.

Seven activity booths will operate on the day. Family-friendly offerings include a three-shot photo booth and photo wall featuring KOBC's official character Maro, as well as face painting for children.

The main event, a talk concert, will take place in the first-floor auditorium from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Heo and Kim will speak on marine environmental topics and host an audience participation quiz show, with prizes for correct answers and participants.

Those wishing to attend the talk concert can apply in advance through KOBC's official Instagram account (@kobcofficial). About 200 seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration opening at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Groups of up to four people may apply together, and walk-in entry will be permitted on the day if seats remain.

KOBC President An Byeong-gil said the event was designed with an expanded lineup of activity booths compared to the previous edition, so that the public can naturally reflect on how to protect the marine environment in their daily lives. "We will continue to create spaces for communication where people can experience the sea and the maritime industry up close," he added.
