Yangcheon-gu held the "2026 Yangcheon Tong Chief Workshop" on Tuesday to strengthen the capabilities of neighborhood chiefs working on the front lines of local administration and to improve communication and cooperation on community issues.
More than 520 tong chiefs from 18 administrative neighborhoods took part in the workshop, using job-skills training sessions to reflect on their roles and responsibilities and renew their commitment to resident-centered, on-the-ground governance. Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Lee Ki-jae presented commendations to tong chiefs who had made outstanding contributions to community development and resident harmony, again underscoring the importance of their role as a bridge between residents and local government.
Particularly notable was a capacity-building session introducing the operating direction and role of the "Yangcheon Tong-Ban Cooperation Team," a new system set for full launch in 2027. The initiative moves away from the existing model of individual ban-level activities, instead pairing tong chiefs and ban chiefs as a single team to jointly monitor residents' daily lives and collaborate on solving neighborhood problems. The district plans to strengthen on-site communication channels alongside the rollout of the new system, building a tighter network of connections with residents.
"I am deeply grateful to all the tong chiefs who are always by residents' side, attentively looking after the big and small matters of the community with such dedication," District Mayor Lee said. "Going forward, I will stay in close communication with you so that residents' voices reach the administration quickly and we can work together to resolve local issues."
