Dalseo-gu in Daegu launched a public-private cooperation task force Monday to develop Wolgwang Waterfront Park into a landmark destination, sharing progress updates and detailed project plans at an on-site briefing.
The task force was formed primarily around residents of Subat Village in Dowon-dong to secure the cooperation of nearby communities, which officials said is essential to the project's success.
The initiative draws on the historical origins of the Dowon-dong place name — "dowon" meaning a utopian peach blossom garden — and aims to transform the area into Dalseo-gu's signature floral attraction.
Plans call for planting a grove of 850 flowering peach trees around Wolgwang Waterfront Park, laying out a barefoot walking trail, and adding a variety of other flowers to turn the surrounding area into a landmark destination for the district.
Going forward, the task force will carry out a range of community activities, including gathering residents' opinions, providing project advisory input, conducting on-site monitoring, and improving the local environment and landscape.
"When Wolgwang Waterfront Park becomes a nationally recognized destination, it will bring many changes to the daily lives of the residents who make their living here," Dalseo-gu District Mayor Kim Yong-pan said. "The public and private sectors will work in step to bring this imagined paradise to life."
