Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, a pressurized water reactor with a capacity of 950,000 kilowatts, located in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province, has begun its latest planned maintenance outage.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters said Tuesday that the unit was shut down at around 10 a.m. to begin its 27th planned preventive maintenance cycle.
Unit 1 has achieved three consecutive cycles of fault-free safe operation.
During the maintenance period, crews will carry out fuel unloading and reloading, internal inspection of the reactor vessel, and servicing of major equipment including the main transformer and auxiliary transformers.
"Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 is expected to resume generation in December after completing statutory inspections required under the Nuclear Safety Act, regulatory conformity reviews, and receiving an operation approval from the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission," a Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters official said.
