The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority held a meeting Tuesday with members of the Yeosu City Council's Marine and Urban Construction Committee at the authority's offices.

The meeting was arranged to share updates on the Gyeongdo development project, which has drawn significant local attention, and to strengthen communication between the authority and the council in support of the marine tourism complex.

Both sides agreed that Mirae Asset, the project developer for the Gyeongdo district, must be firmly urged to fulfill its investment commitments.

Construction of the access road into the Gyeongdo district is 55 percent complete, with a target completion date of September 2028. A JW Marriott hotel planned for the district is set to break ground soon after completing the building permit process.

The authority said it would concentrate its administrative resources on keeping the region's key development projects on track and play an active role in positioning the Gyeongdo marine tourism complex as a hub for global marine tourism.

"We will maintain ongoing communication and cooperation with the Yeosu City Council to ensure the Gyeongdo marine tourism complex is successfully completed as a landmark of the southern coastal region," Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner Gu Chung-gon said.
