The Wolpyeong site in Suncheon's Oeseo-myeon is the only Paleolithic-era site in the Yeongnam and Honam regions.

The third annual Wolpyeong Paleolithic Festival will be held Saturday at the Wolpyeong site in Wolam-ri, Oeseo-myeon, Suncheon.

Now in its third year, the festival marks the 31st anniversary of the discovery of the Wolpyeong site and aims to raise awareness of the historical and cultural significance of National Historic Site No. 458.

The program opens with an orchestra performance by Oeseo Elementary School and continues with a guided tour of the site, a buk nanta drumming show, an Agora Suncheon performance and busking.

Highlights include a "primitive human" appearance performance, charcoal-fire cooking and the "Paleolithic Hunting Squad" — a six-mission challenge featuring archery and spear throwing. Student artwork exhibitions, a flint-knapping workshop and a Paleolithic golden bell quiz round out the day's offerings.

Free shuttle buses will run between the Ocheon Green Square large-vehicle parking lot and the festival grounds.
