Yeungnam University presented its Chunma Honors award to Son Ji-young, CEO of Samsung Store Gyeongsan, on Wednesday in recognition of her contributions to the university's development and student support.
Son donated 10 million won ($7,450) to the university's development fund in June last year, then made an additional contribution of 100 million won in April this year.
The funds have been established as the "Heo Yun-seok Scholarship Fund," named after Son's late mother, and will be used to provide scholarships for students in the departments of food economics and food service management and public administration.
"I hope this small act of giving can serve as a stepping stone for students to believe in their own potential and take on new challenges," Son said. "I would like to continue supporting Yeungnam University's growth and the nurturing of talent, and to share in the joy of giving."
Yeungnam University President Choi Oe-chul said he extends his deepest respect to each Chunma Honors member who generously shares the fruits of their success for the future of the university and its students. "We will redouble our efforts in education and research so that the donors' intentions can translate into the growth of our students and contributions to society," he added.
