Company to compare domestic and Japanese seed varieties for productivity and processing suitability
Ottogi said its task force for Korean agricultural mutual growth volunteered at cabbage farms in Inje-gun, Gangwon Province, on Friday, helping with the harvest.
The activity was part of the company's "Korean Agriculture Mutual Growth Project," through which Ottogi has been expanding its use of domestically grown produce and seeds, pursuing contract farming arrangements, and supporting local farms. The initiative also aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' own mutual-growth program.
Under a contract farming arrangement with farms in the Inje area, Ottogi sources about 200 tons of cabbage annually. The cabbage is used as an ingredient in two varieties of its Light & Joy Witch Soup products, as well as cup rice sauce and commercial salad lines.
The company is also working to expand its use of domestic cabbage seeds. Ottogi has collaborated with domestic seed companies and farms to carry out seedling cultivation and transplanting by variety. It plans to compare domestic and Japanese cabbage seed varieties on productivity and processing suitability as raw materials for its products, with a view to broadening the use of Korean-bred seeds.
