A subcontractor worker died after getting caught in machinery while carrying out maintenance at Hyundai Steel's factory in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.

According to fire authorities and Hyundai Steel, the worker — a man in his 40s identified only by his surname — became trapped in slag-processing equipment at the Dangjin factory in Songak-eup at around 10:40 a.m. Sunday while performing maintenance on the facility.

Emergency responders arrived after factory staff called for help and found the man in cardiac arrest. He was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.

Hyundai Steel is a steelmaker that produces and sells steel, rolled products and various heavy equipment parts.
