Seocho-gu in Seoul held the 2026 Seocho Smart Senior IT Festival at the second-floor auditorium of the district office Thursday, aiming to strengthen digital skills among older residents and support an active retirement lifestyle.

Organized by the Seocho 50 Plus Center under the theme "Smart Joy in Seocho," the event gave senior residents a chance to become more comfortable with digital devices and IT technology while sharing skills they had built through education and activities. Twelve senior welfare institutions took part, including the Seocho Smart Senior Education Center, a senior comprehensive welfare center, Neutinamu Shelter and the Senior Happy e-eum Center.

Seocho-gu District Mayor Jeon Seong-su, Seocho-gu Council Speaker Yu Ji-ung, other council members and about 200 Seocho residents aged 55 and older attended the event. Participants competed in "Challenge! Senior IT Golden Bell," a quiz contest covering IT technology and general digital knowledge, with both team and individual rounds. Prize draws and awards for top performers added to the festive atmosphere.

Ahead of the festival, a short-form video contest was held in September under the theme "Seocho I Discovered, Joy We Share," inviting seniors to submit videos they had produced themselves. A total of 48 entries were received, reflecting strong enthusiasm for digital content among older residents. After a preliminary screening, 10 selected works were displayed in a "Senior Short-Form Video Exhibition" in the first-floor lobby of the district office from Tuesday through Thursday, and an awards ceremony for outstanding entries was held on the festival day.

Meanwhile, the district runs a range of digital education programs for seniors — covering AI, IT applications and smartphone use — at local welfare facilities including a senior comprehensive welfare center, Neutinamu Shelter, the Smart Senior Education Center and Senior Lounge. This year, the district supported 12,839 seniors in completing digital courses and provided one-on-one consultations to 852 people through its "Senior IT Advice Center," helping older residents adapt to a rapidly changing digital society.

"I hope this festival helps seniors find joy in learning AI and digital technology and put those skills to practical use in their daily lives," District Mayor Jeon said. "We will keep working to ensure that seniors are never left behind in the digital age and to make Seocho a city where growing older is something to enjoy."
