Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended an event Saturday at a special outdoor stage at Peace Plaza in Seoul World Cup Park, meeting children and families and sharing festive memories.

The event was organized to mark the 19th Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival, bringing together participants and celebrity chef Lee Hye-jung — known by her nickname "Big Mama" — to roll a 19-meter shrimp kimbap.

Thirty-eight participants, who signed up on-site, were divided into two teams of 19 and competed to complete the giant kimbap roll under Lee's guidance.

A cooking class followed, with participants making shrimp salad alongside the kimbap, giving children and families a chance to explore a variety of ingredients and enjoy hands-on cooking together.

The finished kimbap was judged on criteria reflecting the themes of "harmony" — symbolized by the blending of ingredients — and "fermentation," a nod to the salted shrimp tradition, before results were announced to close the event.

"We prepared this special occasion to roll a 19-meter shrimp kimbap together, capturing the spirit of the 19th Mapo-naru Salted Shrimp Festival," Yoo said. "I hope the children enjoy the pleasure of cooking with their families and carry today's experience as a cherished memory."
