James Kim, chairman and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea, received an honorary doctorate in business administration from Korea Aerospace University in recognition of his contributions to advancing US-Korea economic cooperation.

According to AmCham, the university conferred the degree in recognition of Kim's role as a bridge between the governments and businesses of the two countries, drawing on his experience in global corporate management, and his contributions to expanding bilateral trade and investment and fostering cooperation in advanced industries.

The university particularly cited his efforts to attract foreign investment to South Korea and improve the business environment, which have helped strengthen the US-Korea economic partnership.

The ceremony was held Thursday at Vision Hall in the Aerospace Center on the Korea Aerospace University campus. University President Heo Hee-young and senior faculty, staff and students attended, and Korean Air Senior Vice President Jang Seong-hyeon delivered congratulatory remarks.

In his commemorative address, Kim said it was "a great honor to receive an honorary doctorate in business administration from Korea Aerospace University, a leader in nurturing talent in Korea's aerospace and defense industries." He added that "the industry-academia partnership between Korea Aerospace University and Korean Air, and the longstanding partnership between Korean Air and major US companies, demonstrate the value of cooperation in supporting talent development and industrial advancement."

Kim said AmCham has also "supported students' growth and ambitions through internship programs and ongoing scholarship support with Korea Aerospace University," and pledged to "continue cooperation with the university in the aerospace and defense sectors, which are vital to Korea's future competitiveness, and to expand win-win-win opportunities for universities, businesses and communities to grow together."

In his welcoming remarks, President Heo thanked Kim for his "special attention and support for the university, including expanding the on-campus tennis courts and providing internship opportunities for students," and said it was "a great honor to welcome Chairman Kim as an alumnus of our university through the conferral of this honorary doctorate."

Korean Air Senior Vice President Jang said Kim "has served as a bridge connecting the businesses and cultures of both the United States and Korea," adding that he "has been a role model to those around him through his sincere care for people and his leadership." Jang called the honor "a meaningful recognition befitting the dedication and contributions he has shown."
