Police lead prevention education while Woori Bus performs
Tips delivered in festive atmosphere
'Plan to continue education, performances for seniors'
Ulsan Nambu Police Station and the Woori Bus Healing Arts Troupe visited Munsu Silver Welfare Center on Thursday to educate about 200 senior citizens on how to protect themselves from voice phishing scams.
The two organizations shared information on the increasingly sophisticated tactics used in voice phishing and other financial crimes targeting the elderly, while the arts troupe provided entertainment and energy through a cultural performance.
The session introduced the latest voice phishing schemes draining seniors of their retirement savings: scams impersonating a child in an accident, fraud disguised as low-interest loan offers, solicitations for secret investments with guaranteed 100 percent returns, and lures involving free health food samples.
Participants also received easy-to-follow guidance on how to respond when callers impersonate investigators or financial institution officials to demand money, as well as tips for handling suspicious calls and text messages.
The Woori Bus Healing Arts Troupe performed under the theme of "overcoming dementia," supporting the crime prevention education with trumpet solos and performances on janggu, accordion, harmonica and saxophone.
Ulsan Nambu Police Station and the Woori Bus Healing Arts Troupe said they plan to continue crime prevention education and cultural activities to build a safer and happier community by reducing voice phishing losses.
