The space features three themed zones — a bread tour hub, a rest area for visitors, and a goods shop with a photo zone — catering to tourists exploring the city's bread culture
Daejeon has opened a pop-up cultural space centered on bread, designed to keep pace with emerging tourism trends.
The city opened the Travel Lounge Yuseong Hot Spring Station on Friday, a bread-themed multipurpose cultural space aimed at strengthening Daejeon's brand as South Korea's premier bread city and encouraging tourists to stay longer.
The lounge occupies a repurposed space on the first floor of the former Daejeon General Tourism Information Center at 7 Daehak-ro in Yuseong-gu, covering 113.62 square meters.
Daejeon plans to use the venue as a base for launching, experiencing, and gathering information on bread tours, combining the site's existing tourism information function with bread-focused content and visitor rewards.
The space is organized into three themed zones designed to maximize visitor enjoyment and convenience. The first, a bread office, serves as a comprehensive hub for bread tour information, including reward collection for mission-based bread tours and guided bread city tours. The second, a bread rest stop, gives tourists a comfortable place to sit and enjoy bread and beverages they have purchased along the way. The third zone — a goods shop and photo area — sells a range of merchandise featuring bread and Kkumdori designs and offers a bread-themed photo spot where visitors can take and share pictures.
The lounge is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except during the Lunar New Year and chuseok holidays, with trained staff on hand to provide tourism information and services.
Daejeon also plans to develop the space into a bread hub tied to tourism promotional events in October, including the Daejeon Bread Festival and "Ppanggapseumnida," as part of its broader push to establish the city as South Korea's bread destination.
"We have strengthened experiential content that visitors can enjoy and feel firsthand, going beyond simple tourism information," said Kwon Gyeong-min, director of Daejeon's culture, sports and tourism bureau. "We hope the Travel Lounge Yuseong Hot Spring Station becomes a landmark that offers bread travelers a unique experience, encourages longer stays, and contributes to revitalizing the local economy and tourism."
