The 2026 Waryong Minsok Eoullim Hanmadang, a traditional folk festival sponsored by Dalseo-gu in Daegu and organized by the Seoseo Regional Development Association, will be held Saturday at Waryong Arae Park.
This year's event will include a program for foreign residents, with opening performances by a pungmulnori (traditional percussion and dance) street parade, Arang Gogo Janggu drummers, and the Heart Ensemble, a performance group of musicians with developmental disabilities.
A formal opening ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m., kicking off the main festival program.
Highlights include a neighborhood-versus-neighborhood yutnori (traditional board game) competition, where local districts compete for bragging rights, along with hands-on experiences in traditional games — tuho (arrow-toss), yeotchigi (taffy-pulling), jegichagi (shuttlecock-kicking) and tteokmetchi (rice-cake pounding).
In addition, organizers will run an intergenerational OX quiz and a folk-culture experience space designed for foreign residents.
The afternoon program will feature a neighborhood talent show in which residents perform songs, dances and instrumental pieces, followed by a celebratory concert by invited singers.
"I hope this festival becomes a place of harmony where people enjoy the folk culture that embodies our spirit and warmth, and share that warmth with their neighbors," Dalseo-gu District Mayor Kim Yong-pan said. "We will continue to support a wide range of cultural events where residents can come together and connect."
