Gwanak-gu will open two temporary public parking lots totaling 95 spaces on idle land at its Sillim 2 and Sillim 3 bus depots, free of charge, to ease parking shortages in residential neighborhoods and local commercial areas.

The project uses surplus space at existing public bus depots rather than purchasing new land. The idle space became available after operations were consolidated at the Sillim 1 depot. Portions of the Sillim 2 depot (241-4 Daehak-dong) and the Sillim 3 depot (131-6 and eight additional lots in Seorim-dong) have been converted into the temporary lots.

The Sillim 2 site in Daehak-dong provides 51 spaces on approximately 1,300 square meters not occupied by existing maintenance facilities, while the Sillim 3 site offers 44 spaces on roughly 1,500 square meters excluding its compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station.

At the Sillim 3 site in Seorim-dong, the district separated the traffic flow of buses using the CNG fueling station from that of parking lot users and installed a safety fence between the fueling area and the parking lot to improve safety.

Both lots are free for vehicles up to 2.3 meters in height. The Daehak-dong temporary lot will operate from Nov. 15 through June 2027, and the Seorim-dong lot from Oct. 26 through December 2027.

The district also asked residents to follow usage rules so that as many people as possible can use the facilities conveniently. Each parking stay is limited to 24 hours, and double parking or any behavior that obstructs the movement or exit of other vehicles is prohibited. Trucks over 1.5 tons, buses, vans with 16 or more seats, and construction equipment are not permitted.

Gwanak-gu has consistently worked to add neighborhood public parking facilities to address the shortage of parking spaces. Starting with the Nanhyang-dong public parking lot in 2022, the district has developed the Nangok smart public parking lot and the Moraenae Park public parking lot, adding a total of 398 spaces across six sites. It also plans to build additional lots at Euncheon Guksabong, Haetae Park in Seorim-dong, and Daehak-dong.

The district is also running a shared parking program that opens unused spaces at private facilities to residents. It currently operates 535 shared spaces at 27 sites including apartment complexes and religious facilities, with plans to expand to more than 550 spaces by the end of this year.

Gwanak-gu District Mayor Park Jun-hee said the district was able to ease residents' parking difficulties by making efficient use of existing facilities without purchasing additional land. "We will continue to manage our parking lots so residents can use them safely and conveniently, and keep securing parking spaces suited to local conditions," he said.
