Plastisol product offers high corrosion and weather resistance, expanding company's business reach
A new coating for color steel sheets designed to withstand harsh climate conditions for up to 30 years is coming to market.
KCC, an applied materials and chemicals company, announced Thursday that it will launch a plastisol product with these properties.
Plastisol is a coating made by dispersing PVC resin in a plasticizer, and is notable for enabling thick-film application at 120 to 200 micrometers. It is used in pre-coated metal, or PCM, finishing — a process widely applied to home appliance exteriors and building interior materials.
The plastisol coating forms a film five to six times thicker than conventional thin-film PCM coatings, which are typically applied at 20 to 30 micrometers. This allows the resulting color steel sheets to maintain their physical properties over extended use in harsh outdoor environments, delivering high corrosion resistance, durability and weather resistance.
Color steel sheets coated with plastisol can sustain stable performance even under intense ultraviolet exposure and severe climate conditions. While standard PCM color steel sheets carry a weather resistance warranty of up to 20 years, plastisol-coated sheets are rated to last up to 30 years.
KCC also manufactures the plastisol without EU-designated substances of very high concern, or SVHC, and excludes phthalate-based plasticizers. The company has additionally applied odor-free technology that eliminates odor-causing substances during the coating process.
"Plastisol color steel sheets are currently being exported to the United Kingdom, Kuwait and Ireland," KCC said. "We expect demand to grow as extreme weather events become more frequent."
