Funds to support industry development and youth technical talent
Former 12th-term association president received Gold Tower Industrial Medal this year
Growing demand for skilled workers as AI data centers, semiconductor facilities expand
Jo In-ho, honorary chairman of the Korea Mechanical Construction Association and chief executive of Haegwang E&C, has donated 50 million won ($37,400) to support the development of the mechanical facilities industry and the cultivation of young technical talent.
The Korea Mechanical Construction Association held a donation ceremony Wednesday at the Mechanical Facilities Hall in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Jo served as the association's 12th-term president, during which he worked to establish the Mechanical Facilities Act, improve related regulatory systems and enhance the business environment for member companies. This year, he received the Gold Tower Industrial Medal at the 2026 Construction Day ceremony in recognition of his contributions to the construction industry.
The mechanical facilities sector covers the installation and maintenance of key building systems, including heating and cooling, air conditioning, and water supply and drainage. As advanced industrial facilities such as AI data centers and semiconductor production plants grow in importance, securing skilled technical workers to ensure stable facility operations has emerged as a pressing challenge.
The donated funds will be used to systematically train young technical talent who will lead the future of the mechanical facilities industry.
"For the mechanical facilities industry to continue growing, nothing is more important than nurturing outstanding technical talent who will carry it forward," Jo said. "I made this donation hoping it will serve as a solid foundation for developing the people who will be responsible for the industry's future."
Korea Mechanical Construction Association President Heo Yong-ju thanked Jo for the contribution. "I am deeply grateful that Honorary Chairman Jo In-ho, who has devoted himself to the advancement of the mechanical facilities industry, has again made a meaningful decision for the industry's future through talent development," Heo said. "We will do our utmost to ensure that his generous intentions translate into the cultivation of talent for the long-term future of the mechanical facilities industry."
