Daegu-based construction company Seohan announced Tuesday it is launching a new residential brand, "Arel," in line with rapidly shifting housing trends and the increasingly diverse lifestyles of its customers.
Unveiled to mark the company's 55th anniversary, Arel was conceived to address the needs of a broad range of customers, drawing on the technical expertise and know-how Seohan has accumulated over the years as well as the customer trust built through its existing brands, Seohan Idaeum and Seohan Forest.
The name "Arel" is a compound of the ancient Greek word "ARistos," meaning "the best" or "most excellent," and "hELios," meaning "light" — together conveying the idea of "the light of living (hELios) unfolding upon the pinnacle of architectural craft (ARistos)."
The word "Aristos," in particular, is meant to signify not mere ranking or superiority, but an orientation toward the essential completeness and excellence inherent in a given subject.
Combined with the imagery of light drawn from "Helios," Arel aims to be a consumer-centered residential brand that begins with technical mastery and extends into the landscape of everyday life.
The brand identity also features a distinctive design. The primary color chosen is "Arel Navy," symbolizing depth, trust and a forward-looking direction.
The symbol mark renders the letter "A" through clean curves and straight lines to convey a sense of balance and contemporary sensibility, reflecting Arel's progressive spirit of discovering new possibilities amid a changing world.
Seohan's residential brands have evolved alongside shifts in its business scope and housing trends. Seohan Idaeum, launched in 2002 with the meaning of "Next," became the company's flagship apartment brand, aspiring toward a residential culture better than today.
In 2019, Seohan introduced Seohan Forest, a mixed-use residential brand targeting a higher standard of living, emphasizing comfort and ease through imagery of "rest" (for REST) and nature's "forest" (Forest).
Arel now follows as the company's next-generation brand, designed to encompass the values of its predecessors while being applied broadly across a diverse range of future housing products.
Since its founding in 1971, Seohan has consistently built its technical capabilities and construction experience over 55 years in the housing and construction sectors, growing into a leading construction company in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province.
The company has supplied housing to more than 80,000 households through its own projects and contracted work, and has earned recognition for quality and technical excellence — including 13 selections as an outstanding contractor by the Korea Land and Housing Corp. and a top ranking in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's mutual cooperation assessment.
Last year, despite a prolonged construction market downturn, Seohan achieved a record 1.6024 trillion won ($1.2 billion) in new orders — the largest in the company's history — demonstrating its solid project execution capabilities and market adaptability.
"Through the new brand Arel, we plan to meet the diverse expectations of consumers and lead the way in advancing residential culture," said Kim Byung-jun, executive managing director at Seohan. "Just as the name Arel implies, we will grow it into a residential brand that adds new possibilities to the space called home and illuminates the lives within it."
