South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyung-il reaffirmed the importance of bilateral economic and financial cooperation with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a video call Tuesday — the first since Lee took office — held at Government Complex Seoul at 10:15 p.m. Korean Standard Time.

Bessent congratulated Lee on his appointment and said the economic and financial partnership between the two countries remained important, the ministry said.

Lee thanked Bessent for the congratulations and said he looked forward to maintaining close communication and cooperation between the two finance ministers going forward.

The two ministers also discussed shared economic policy priorities and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The ministry said it plans to continue engaging with the treasuries of the United States and other major economies to deepen economic and financial cooperation.
