Nonghyup Central Federation Chairman Kang Ho-dong (second from left, front row), Ministry of Interior and Safety Minister Yun Ho-jung (center, front row), Korea Fire Insurance Association Vice Chairman Lee Seung-woo (second from right, front row) and other guests posed for a photo Tuesday afternoon after signing the People's Fire Safety Project MOU at the Nonghyup Central Federation headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

The agreement among the Ministry of Interior and Safety, Nonghyup Central Federation and the Korea Fire Insurance Association aims to expand the distribution of smoke detectors to help residents of aging housing evacuate quickly in the event of a fire. Under the MOU, Nonghyup Central Federation will provide 100 million won ($74,900) annually for three years — 300 million won in total — and build a retail and sales network through Hanaro Mart outlets nationwide to make smoke detectors more accessible. The Korea Fire Insurance Association will handle safety inspections and education, while the Ministry of Interior and Safety will oversee the pilot project and the phased expansion of smoke detector distribution.
