National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Chairman Kang Ho-dong delivered opening remarks Tuesday afternoon at a signing ceremony for the National Fire Safety Project MOU, held at the federation's headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
The agreement, signed by the Ministry of Interior and Safety, Nonghyup and the Korea Fire Insurance Association, aims to expand the distribution of smoke detectors so residents of aging housing can evacuate quickly in the event of a fire. Under the MOU, Nonghyup will provide 100 million won ($74,900) annually for three years — 300 million won in total — and build a retail and sales network through Hanaro Mart outlets nationwide to make smoke detectors more accessible. The Korea Fire Insurance Association will handle safety inspections and education, while the Ministry of Interior and Safety will oversee the pilot project and manage the phased expansion of smoke detector distribution.
