Mexican-style taco hoppang joins premium black sugar and gamju varieties; five bestsellers get fermented rice starter upgrade
Samlip announced Tuesday that it has named actor Gong Myung as the new brand ambassador for Samlip Hoppang and will launch 20 new products this season.
The campaign slogan is "How many hoppang this winter?" TV commercials and other campaign content will roll out in stages starting in mid-October.
The five bestselling varieties — red bean, vegetable, pizza, sweet potato and kimchi — will now use a "fermented rice starter" made by combining patented lactic acid bacteria with rice flour. The kimchi hoppang has also been reformulated, switching its filling from stir-fried kimchi to fresh kimchi.
The new taco hoppang line reimagines Mexican tacos in steamed-bun form. It comes in two varieties: a kimchi taco hoppang combining kimchi with taco salsa sauce, and a traditional taco hoppang made with guacamole ranch sauce and cumin. A basil cheese hoppang using basil pesto will also be introduced.
The premium lineup features a black sugar red bean hoppang and a gamju whole red bean hoppang. The black sugar red bean variety pairs Okinawan black sugar with sweet red bean paste, while the gamju whole red bean version uses a gamju tangzhong dough and red bean filling.
Collaboration products round out the lineup. A tie-up with Tamagotchi yields a pork and chive hoppang and a chili dog hoppang, while a partnership with Anpanman brings a chestnut red bean hoppang and a curry hoppang. Both the Tamagotchi and Anpanman collaboration hoppang will include collectible sticker seals.
"We have put together a diverse lineup ranging from our steady sellers to character collaborations and trendy flavors like taco and buldak," a Samlip official said. "Through the campaign with actor Gong Myung, we will deliver a fun and approachable brand experience."
